For me, months into the pandemic, the sentimental longing of nostalgia is a feeling I’m constantly engaging in. Old feelings meshing with new ones, new feelings feel like old feelings, wanting to feel old feelings again, feeling, feeling, feeling, feeling the same; it’s just a whole bunch of feels. With Ximena Sariñana’s newest release, Nostalgia via Warner Music Group Mexico, I’m feeling something new.
According to Sariñana’s Instagram, she wrote the lyrics to “Nostalgia” with the help of a group of women she had worked with during a song camp in Bogota, Colombia. She played a similar strategy for her last release, “Una Vez Mas,” as she also wrote it in collaboration with another group of women, Elsa and Elmar; Susana Isaza and Grettel Garibaldi; and Ruzzi behind the production wheel.
“Nostalgia es una canción que encuentra el lado positivo a extrañar a alguien. Creo que es una canción sumamente relevante para nuestros tiempos, una manera de verle el lado bueno a las cosas, con un arreglo y estilo que me remite a las canciones que escuchaba en mi adolescencia.”
